- : There's a very good reason for this. CDROM sales on Amiga (even with
- : CD32 included) are very poor - and have been for 6 months. With
- : production costs it is not worth doing. And I speak with experience of
-
- I thought it was relatively cheap to produce software on CDROM. Also,
- there are more and more people buying CDROM`s now and so I would have
- thought CD sales would suplement disk sales nicely. Also, if a game is
- not just a quick port of an A1200 title, like a CD adventure game then
- surely there is more chance of sales being higher on this format. I know
- that if a game came out on disk and CD, and the CD contained numerous
- enhancements (like speech) I would buy the CD version in a flash.
- I still reckon that the Amiga CD market is growing all the time as more
- and more people are seeng that it`s well worth (and relatively cheap) to get
- a CD unit. We just need decent games which make
- use of the CD (speech enhanced adventure games are fine for now) and
- I`m sure sales would increase. Piracy is vastly reduced (do Amiga pirates
- copy CD`s?) and the consumer is getting a much better product that doesnt
- feel like it was just dumped across from the disk version in a hurry.
- Oh BTW, I bought the CD version of worms as it did offer the enhancements
- you speak about. True, I would have liked to have seen better interaction
- with the video clips, but it was still a good move and I would hope will
- result in more sales of this version.
- Oh and finally, by releasing enhanced Amiga CD products people are going
- to see that it`s even more essential to have a CD unit and as a result
- the CD market will increase. Software companies (like Team17) just have
- to make the first move, release decent CD enhanced (or CD only) software
- and hopefully the Amiga CD market will develop (maybe slowly) into one
- which is a lot stronger and more profitable for all involved in it...
- Also, it`s a great way to stamp on piracy....
-
- : Worms, where we did support the game with CD Audio AND animations like
- : the PC version. At the moment it is proving very difficult to get CD32
- : stock into retail due to few machines being sold and retailer
- : confidence low.
- Again, it`ll take time but someone has to make the first move and get
- the ball moving. We need a killer CD game..Something thats gonna make
- everyone go out and buy a CDROM drive...As a multimedia company, you
- lot at Team17 are in a perfect position to achieve this..
-
- Yeah, I can see that retailer confidence in Amiga CD games is low as
- I havent seen CD worms in some of the biggest stores. Still, if a killer
- CD game sold well over mail order it would surely make high street
- retailers take note and reevaluate their attitude towards the format.
